so it has been a while.

and of course, on a day when I'm wanting to take a photo, Josh has taken the digital camera to work.

SO

I decided I would share a photo from earlier on this month.

just provide a little update on what is going on these days.

my scars are fading slowly,

the pain and stiffness is still there, but nothing like before.

I can bend my knee to pretty much what my other knee can do.

heck

one could almost say I walk "normal" most of the time.

I have to say, physical therapy has been really good for me.

besides the obvious, I've been inspired.

finally.

to get in better shape/ health/ weight.

all of it.

I'm finally doing it.

and it feels fabulous.

so I hope you can forgive me from being absent here.

I've just been rather focused these days and I spend less time in blog world.

I hope that life is treating you right.

and don't be surprised when I randomly stop by and say hi.

Noah's toy left in the kitchen after an early morning puppy fit. Since it is so cold, he hasn't gone on many walks this week and is definitely going a bit stir crazy.

spending 6-8 hours on my knee CPM machine takes up most of my free time.

I'm starting a workout routine at the gym to help bring the rest of my strength back as well.

physical therapy every day really does seem to be helping my knee... even if the progress is a little slow.

it is still progress.

I took these shots with my little Diana camera back in November.

the flamingo photos were taken right before my knee gave out.

I remember the day started off a bit overcast.

You can see some of the leaves starting to turn yellow in the background.

Noah and I had just taken a walk and I noticed my neighbor had put turkey feathers on her flamingos.

This picture, I actually took right after my knee popped out.

I had been trying to get the "season of thanks" sign in the frame...

shot right before we left for our walk.

so I go back to the surgery center tomorrow.

to have my knee manipulated.

{just means they will bend my knee all the way to break up all the scar tissue}

I'll be knocked out for the process and pretty loaded on pain killers afterwards.

BUT

hopefully after this procedure I'll be able to bend my knee normally again.

A little chilly in the house this morning, but the sun is out.

I'm off having surgery (no fun)

But, I do have something fun planned while I'm away.

I really love going through old photos.

So I thought I would share some of my memories.

As well as answer a get to know you questionnaire that I got through my friend,

Cassie, from A Serenade For Solitude.

She recently awarded me a token of friendship.

So I wanted to thank you, Cassie, for such a lovely gesture.

And share with everyone my responses to the questions she asked.

1. What did you first want to be when you grew up?

A veterinarian. Loved animals, still do, just can't deal with looking at their insides. I have freshman year biology to thank for that one - I made my lab partner do all the dirty work for dissections. ugh.

2. Favorite childhood game?

Hmmm... my younger siblings and I liked to play pretend adventures. We would pretend we were in the jungle outside and have to go through all of these obstacles to get through it (like crawl on your belly under the swings, climb the monkey bars, go around the trees). Oh but this one time we took our cabbage patch play house, moved it to the bedroom, and decided it was in the middle of the swamp... To create the swamp - we poured buckets of water all over the bedroom carpet, completely soaked it. Guess we should have "pretended" a little more and not try to make it so authentic...

3. Most favorite Birthday?

One that stands out the most was in Elementary School - A My Little Pony Party. I remember my dad and godmother working so hard the night before on my birthday cake that they decorated. The pin the tail on the pony (that I sooo cheated on with my "blindfold"). All of my friends came and I just remember having so much fun.

4. Something you've always wanted to do but haven't done yet?

Just like Cassie, I would love to take a creative course/ retreat. One that I've been drooling over lately will actually be held in the Pacific Northwest. They are called Be Present Retreats and you can find them here.

It all just sounds wonderful to me.

5. What was your first love?

Reading. I LOVED going with my grandfather to the bookstore. He would always buy me a book and I'd read it that night. One of my best friends (who is a couple of years older than me) would let me borrow her books too. I remember sitting in my bed with a 600 page book, just devouring it.

6. First musical idol?

Vanessa Williams, Save the best for last... ohhh that was my favorite. I remember running to get the tape recorder when I heard it on the radio just so I could record it to play over and over and over again.

7. Favorite gift?

I remember my husband, back when we were first dating. I worked at a bank and he was still in college. One afternoon he left a single rose with a note on my windshield with a sweet little note to be dressed and ready for a date night and he would pick me up at a certain time. It was a tiny gesture, but it will always be my favorite.

8. If a theme song played for you everywhere you went, what would it be?

Jeez, my mind just went blank... hahaha more often than not I listen to classical music.

Vivaldi is one of my favorites, so anything by him.

I almost took a shower with my socks on...

and that's how my day started for the second time I decided to get out of bed.

The first time I got out of bed, it was early.

The skies were grey and overcast and the cold from outside had quickly left a chill inside the house as well.

I was on the phone with a friend when all of a sudden,

there was a loud POP and the power went out.

SO...

I retreated to the warmth of the covers.

Until about 11 AM.

That's about the time where I find myself about to hop in the shower with socks on.

Thankfully I didn't.

My afternoon was actually quite a delight considering how the morning had started.

A warm latte from my one of my favorite coffee spots.

A long stroll with my pup through the park and around one of my favorite neighborhoods.

About an hour of driving around looking at historic houses.

Taking pictures with my Diana film camera.

And then.

My right knee gave out.

*side story*

back when I was trying to impress boys I jumped over a high fence to retrieve a football.

there was a very cute young man I was hoping to impress at the time so it was so important that I jump this 12 foot fence.

I did. No problems. BUT when I "hopped" back over, my foot caught and I landed wrong.

Thus messing up my knee for the rest of my life.

I did get a lot of attention from the cute boy though...

All I did was bend down.

Man I feel old.

So now I'm hobbling around and in a good amount of pain.

Hopefully I can drive to the camera store to drop off my film and run my other errands.

Or at least get a cute boy to wait on me...

I never made it to the grocery store yesterday...

so my baking festivities will resume today...

because well, applesauce and handful of chocolate chips,

I'm feeling a little lost.

I realized today that the hubby took my/ our digital camera on his five day trip.

My film cameras are happy because now I have no choice but to use them.

{which I love doing so}

BUT I will miss my instant gratification of that darn digital camera.

So for a little distraction I'm going to bake and try some new recipes.

And in case they turn out terrible...

no one but me and the animals will know...

to inspire my new project.

I'll peruse through some cookbooks.

Because I really do love a pretty cookbook.

The hubby and I drove by this little lovely on Saturday.

The completely fenced in yard, huge 100 year old oak tree, covered patios, glass door knobs, and designer wallpaper in the dining room are all so appealing to me.

I've noticed a trend that Tuesday seem to be Home Tour days, so I think I'll keep it up!

I love it when it starts to cool down here.

the changing of seasons is such a nice way to wipe the slate clean and start fresh.

There is something about the front of this house that really draws me in.

It definitely has some fun charm as well as plenty of room for sprucing up.

Ahhh and I'm loving the idea of a little cottage behind the main house...

just a clean slate ready to be prettied!

sometimes, it isn't so bad to wake up to grey skies.

a cooler breeze is definitely a welcome addition this morning.

I think a cold front might blow through by the middle of the week.

Looking forward to wearing more scarves and gasp, maybe even mittens!

or at least until late November.

Do you have those days when everything just piles up and you just don't know where to start?

Got back from visiting the Grandparents last night with full intentions to clean...

right..

more like, take a walk with the hubby and dog,

goof around on the internet,

and fall asleep exhausted.

Now I'm looking around just a little dazed and confused.

I have pumpkins to decorate.

A puppy to entertain... why is he always so pitiful?

And a bedroom makeover just waiting to be finished...

Oh and of course I listed the fun stuff first...

dishes, laundry, dusting, vacuuming... oh and I still have work tonight...

Guess I better get busy.

This house is closer to the style that I'm trying to achieve -

a happy medium between contemporary and vintage.

Although, I think this house is a little TOO finished for me.

I wish there were more vintage tile to be found and it definitely needs a new front door.

But, it's still fun to look at.

Still working on the bedroom. I have the duvet and curtains and I've recovered the lampshades.

Still need to add trim to the curtains and shades, paint the bedside tables, and hang artwork.

Oh and I'm working on getting a new bed frame...

I really like this nailhead upholstered trim bed from West Elm:

But the Malm Bed from Ikea is definitely an easier price for the Mr. to swallow.

Who knows what he will choose...

blue skies went away today.

with a chance of rain in the forecast.

I did what any self respecting gal on her day off would do.

stayed in my pj's till noon

made home made brownies.

so I've been aching to revamp the bedroom.

while talking to a friend earlier, we calculated that

I've had my bedding for six years...

that isn't including the coverlet which was my mothers'.

so it's time for a change.

at least it's time to dream...

I will be sprucing up the furniture we already have in the bedroom:

two antique nightstands

a rattan chair

and an antique vanity

I plan on painting them (not the chair) - just haven't decided on a color(s) yet.

I'll keep you all updated on the progress!!

imagine for one moment.

you are sitting at the base of a waterfall.

the sound.

pounding water against the rocks below.

the feeling.

ice cold glacier mist against your skin.

the smell.

fresh and earthy.

the sight.

breathtaking.

we hiked to each of these waterfalls while on our trip.

some were in Oregon, some Washington.

oh and that cupcake traveled from Portland just have it's debut

next to our first waterfall of the trip.

I like to look at houses
AND
I like to take walks.
put the two together and well,
it's kind of like eating chocolate.
or cupcakes.
or drinking your morning latte.
you get the idea.

so bright and early as the sun was just rising.
the hubby and I took a stroll through downtown Portland.

we found this as we walked...
tried to find the place, but couldn't.
(thankfully I had eaten two mini cupcakes for breakfast already, compliments of Cupcake Jones)

then we decided to head over to one of my favorite parts of town,
the Alphabet District

so I've noticed,

when I get uber-excited...

I don't tend to take the best photos.

maybe it is the because of all of the distractions...

but while strolling these beautiful streets,
it really is so easy to "get lost."
thankfully I had Josh to navigate...

and for the grand finale...
I found my vacation home in Portland.

*drooling*

see, I'm all ready to go inside and put my feet up after all that walking.
and wouldn't you know it... the house is actually on the market.

vacation.

it's about rest.

being lazy.

and enjoying the fact that

it's really OK if you do

NOTHING.

and so for at least an hour or so each day.

that's what I did.

Nothing.

well... except I took pictures of the rooms while doing nothing..

meet Ace Hotel, Pearl District, Portland style.

sure you get a view of a brick wall...

but hey... natural light, big bonus.

AND

check out the cool sliding window cover and book page wallpaper.

plus did I mention the price for location aspect?

cheap rent + awesome downtown vibe = what more could you ask for?

well besides a room with a view... oh and a private bathroom.

(forgot that little part - shared facilities, European style if you want to sound fancy)

been to this hotel three times though, and love it each time.

now after "roughing it" in Portland, you gotta swank it up a bit in Hood River.

hmmm swanky and hood don't really go together do they?

enter Seven Oaks Bed and Breakfast.

mmmm breakfast.

it's the most important meal of the day.

and boy do the inn keepers know how to make it important.

almost everything is sourced from their gardens -

and when the chickens decide to lay eggs.

lucky for us they laid enough for us to have fresh eggs our first morning.

let me just say now, I ADORE this place.

this is the second time I've been there and I'm ready to go back again.

so after enjoying three nights of private bathroom bliss.

it was back to doing it European style.

*hmmm that sounds well... hmmm*

we were on vacation after all....

ANYWAYS

enter Ace Hotel, Seattle style.

this room had a great window for watching people,

rain falling under street lamps at night,

and gorgeous daytime natural light.

oh, and a prime view of the more 'colorful' crowd in the early a.m.

(we woke up one morning to find a guy with a blood soaked towel around his neck getting yelled at by this other guy that kept pushing him around)

did I mention cheap rent and trendy local...

oh and we were on the second floor so no worries about anybody bothering us while watching them....

really, though, I did love Seattle.

apparently I even look local...

I was asked twice for directions while we were there.

fair skin and lack of color over all - wardrobe speaking.

I like grey.

as I sit here enjoying the grey skies, listening to the rain drops pitter patter against the roof

and watch the wind scatter fall leaves down the alley.

I can't help but think we brought a little bit of Seattle back home with us.

we had a fabulous trip.

sublime waterfalls and hidden trails.

a LOT of walking around each town we visited.

several excursions to gorgeous neighborhoods I'm so thrilled to share with you.

PLUS, I've even found some of the homes for sale on the internet so we can take virtual tours of these lovelies.

for now, though...

it's laundry and grocery time.

plus I have been battling a cold since last Tuesday

(no worries, I didn't let it stop me from having a good time)

Also looking forward to catching up to each of your blogs.

Until then, enjoy a day at the park in Hood River, OR.

We spent several afternoons here...

So I'm sure you've noticed I've slacked a little on posts this week.

Well, the reason is because I'm heading to the Pacific Northwest on Saturday.

AND... I've officially started vacation mode already...

it has been SO easy just to sleep....

late evening walk leads to blurry state of mind (and photo).

Oh and I'm thinking I've lost all of my marbles.

stayed up until 3:30 AM rearranging furniture in my living and office nook...

I can thank my mom for that urge...

(she used to constantly have us help her move furniture around, and I mean constantly... oh and I loved it!)
